Ferret Cages
Ferret cages should be placed in a ferret-proofed area of your home. What this means is that there should be nothing in that area that the animal can get into or break, as there is a chance that they might get out of the cage because they have been known to be sneaky creatures. The cage should be placed in an area of the house where the temperature is fairly constant. The temperature itself should be room temperature at all times if possible. When the temperature is good the ferret themselves will be calmer and easier to manage. You should never use a fish tank as a ferret cage as they cannot move around well in this type of environment. There are various types of ferret cages that you can buy. Some of quite difficult to put together while others are quite simple. In some cases the cages that are being created for ferrets can be considered better then houses that humans would live in. The cages themselves range from single level ranches to multi-level mansion that even consists of guesthouses for multiple ferrets. The size and type of cage that you will own will depend on the size of your ferret, the size of your home and the amount of money that you are willing to spend on your cage. Some of the better ones are made by Marshall, Marchioro, Martin's, Midwest, and Ware. Ferret cages should be at least three feet wide by two feet high. This is the minimum measurement for one ferret. If you own multiple ferrets then you should never house both or all in a cage of this size. No matter the number of ferrets you cage should always have enough room for a playroom, a place for the food, and an area that can be used as a bathroom. You have to keep in mind that you need to treat your animals the same as you want to be treated, you would not want to sleep in the same area where you go to the bathroom, so your ferret cage should be big enough for a sleeping area as well. Ferret cages need to have proper ventilation. If the cage has poor ventilation you will find that after a short period of time your cage will smell and will appear very dirty. Not only will the cage become stinky but also so will your ferret. This creates more work for you cause then you will need to clean your cage more often along with your ferret. |
